AsiaToday reporter Hong Sung-yool = On February 24, Korean Telecom (KT) announced that it will provide roaming service between LTE FDD Networks and LTE TDDE Networks along with China Mobile, the largest Chinese mobile phone operator.
LTE FDD divides the frequency band allotted into two discrete smaller channels for uploading and downloading. On the other hand, LTE TDD uses the entire channel but alternates between uploading and downloading.
Most of LTE commercialized regions like Korea, Japan, United States, and Europe use LTE FDD while China and some countries use LTE TDD. So LTE roaming service was impossible between countries with different LTE networks.
However, as KT and China Mobile agreed to commercialize LTE roaming service between two types of networks, KT smartphone users are able to use LTE service when in China.
